The Right Tools to Deep Clean Your Cabinets
With the arrival of warmer weather, it’s time to think about spring cleaning. Our kitchens and bathrooms get a lot of mileage over the winter since we spend more time at home. Dust, grease, and other products tend to splatter or accumulate across surfaces. We often overlook our cabinets.
It’s important to clean both the inside and outside of our cabinetry using the right tools to avoid damaging them. But it doesn’t have to be complicated. Here are a few things to consider:
- Use cleaners specifically made for your cabinetry, depending on the material. You can usually find specific liquids for use on wood, for example.
- Lemon juice, orange oil, and vinegar are easy to obtain and work as universal cleaners for just about any surface in your home.
- Try to avoid tools like large brushes or abrasive sponges. If you have a stubborn or sticky spot, try using a spray bottle filled with a 50/50 mixture of water and vinegar and wipe down with a microfiber cloth. You can also use a soft bristled toothbrush.
- Use extended dusters to reach the top of your cabinets. If grease has built up, use the 50/50 mixture to soak and wipe it away.
- The easiest way to clean the inside of your cabinets, whether in your kitchen or bathroom, is to add liners that can be removed, wiped down and placed back inside.
With a little prep work, deep cleaning doesn’t have to be a tedious job. We don’t always notice just how grimy our cabinets can get over time, or how much wear and tear they’ve sustained. Regular cleaning can help maintain them.
