How to Incorporate Pantone’s Colours of the Year in Your Kitchen

Every year, the Pantone Colour Institute forecasts the colour that will reflect the year ahead. For 2021, Pantone unveiled not only one, but two choices for its Colour of the Year: Ultimate Grey and Illuminating Yellow.

According to Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Colour Institute, these two colours “come together to express a message of strength and hopefulness” and that “the union of an enduring Ultimate Grey with the vibrant yellow Illuminating expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude.”

Incorporate this dynamic duo in your interior space this year! Here are some different ways you can spruce up your kitchen with these colours:

  • Kitchen Cabinetry – Ultimate Grey is a timeless neutral that will never go out of style, which it makes it an excellent choice for your cabinetry.
  • Backsplash – Not only is Ultimate Grey a great option for your cabinetry, it’s also perfect for your backsplash. This versatile colour complements a variety of other hues, so it’s easy to change things up in the future.
  • Fresh Fruits – The smallest pop of colour can make your space stand out. Add a bowl with bananas, lemons, mangoes or other brightly coloured fruit.
  • Chairs – Add chairs or barstools with a shade of yellow to create a sunny focal point in your kitchen.
  • Accents – If yellow isn’t your top choice but you’d still like to experiment with it, start small by incorporating accents such as yellow tulips, dishware displayed on open shelves or bright ceramic vases.
